Travel Arrangements

The Retreat address is:

Conductors Retreat at Medomak
307 Liberty Road
Washington, ME 04574

There are several good ways to get to Medomak.  Some people prefer to have the flexibility of having a car, but it’s not necessary to have a car at Medomak. Lodging, meals, classes and rehearsals are on-site. The Retreat schedule includes two trips away from the Retreat. Typically, there are enough cars for carpooling for these trips, off campus errands, or trips to area attractions.

By Air

There are airports in Portland, Bangor and Rockland.  Usually, the best choice is the Portland airport, which is about 90 minutes drive from Medomak. Rockland is closer, but has the smallest airport with the fewest connections and most expensive flights. It’s also possible to fly to Boston, Massachusetts and Manchester, New Hampshire, which are much farther away.  Prices for flights to Boston and Manchester are sometimes lower, but there is the added expense of ground transportation.

Ground Transportation from Portland airport

The Conductors Retreat at Medomak charters a bus, for a fee, from the Portland airport to Medomak on the first day of the Retreat (departs Portland Airport at 2:00pm on Sunday, June 23, 2024) and a return bus on the last Sunday morning (departs Medomak at 9:30am for 11:00am arrival at Portland Airport on Sunday, July 7, 2024). The Retreat is located in rural Washington, Maine, about 90 minutes driving from the Portland airport. Commercial airport transportation services are available, and must be arranged well in advance. It is not possible to take a taxi from the airport to Medomak. We recommend taking our charter bus from the Portland airport.

By Train and Bus

Portland is serviced by bus and AMTRAK.  Once you arrive in Portland, you will need to make your way to the airport to meet the charter bus to Medomak.

By Car

There is free parking at Medomak.  Directions are available in the Location and Travel section of this site.

Carpooling

It’s sometimes possible to arrange to ride with another participant.  We’ll help facilitate contacts between drivers and riders.
