Conductors Retreat Annual Campaign - We Need You!

Dear reader,

We’re still elated about last year’s Retreat, our 25th Summer! While we certainly celebrated our achievements and enjoyed our memories, we didn’t linger on them. Instead, we took a clear-eyed look into the future and found new perspectives, launched bold initiatives, and further energized our capacity to cause important change!

Yes, we still teach and hone essential conducting skills. We still elevate the artistry of our participants through rigorous, intensive, and demanding work. We still operate from the philosophy that effective and inspiring leadership is rooted in authenticity and empathy, and we still create a uniquely supportive environment which fosters trust, risk-taking, and collaboration. The Conductors Retreat at Medomak is not a workshop. It is a paradigm shifting turning point! It shapes the landscape of conducting, conductors, and the thousands of people who make music with them as singers or players throughout their careers as well as the thousands whom they touch through their performances and service to their communities.

These days it’s a challenge for any of us to escape the impact of dramatically higher prices. It is the same for our organization. We need your support in order to do what we do.

On the expense side of the ledger, we take fiscal responsibility seriously. Our operation is as trim as we can possibly make it while still paying for room and board, an orchestra of professional musicians, and our faculty and staff. On the income side, we have had to increase our tuition over recent years, which regrettably makes it impossible or extremely difficult for many who want to come to the Retreat.

We need to raise $80,000 to cover our expenses for this year. This is in addition to tuition we receive from participants. We will be deeply grateful for your support in any amount. Still, given the circumstances, I am asking you to increase your donation, if at all possible.

This year’s opening chamber music concert is at 2:00 pm on Sunday, July 3, and our gala orchestra concert will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 16. We would be delighted to have you with us.

We are profoundly grateful to you for making our work possible. Thanks so much for your support and for being a member of the Conductors Retreat at Medomak family.

With my warm and very best wishes,
Ken Kiesler
