Dear reader,

We hope this message finds you well as we write to share some exciting news. On September 8, Naxos released the premiere recording of two one-act operas by the Harlem composer James P. Johnson, conducted by the Retreat's founder and director Kenneth Kiesler. This landmark release was greeted by articles in the New York Times and Michigan News.
Originally recorded in 2006 by Ken and the University of Michigan Opera Theatre & Symphony Orchestra, this album has been a work in progress for 17 years. "I’m so thrilled that this music, recorded and released for the very first time, will reach the audience it deserved decades ago," Ken said. "Now the world can finally hear these works by one of the most influential artists of the 1930s, 40s, and 50s, performed by a wonderful orchestra, great jazz pianist James Dapogny, and a splendid cast of singers."

Please join us in celebrating and congratulating Ken on this fantastic achievement!
