Aural Skills
Aural Skills has been one of the cornerstones of the Conductors Retreat at Medomak since its founding in 1997. Beginning on the first Monday of the Retreat, participants take part in weekday small-group sessions. One thirty-minute private tutorial is also available to each participant.
Aural Skills provides an opportunity for conductors to continue developing their essential musicianship skills. Participants play with pitch, intervals, harmony, rhythm, melody and texture in order to build the interconnection of listening, understanding, and musical communication. The work emphasizes sight-singing skills in various clefs, contributing to the improvement of transposition and fluency in score-reading. The sessions culminate in an enjoyable group project that synthesizes the topics, skills, and repertoire of the Retreat.
